Hong Kong address in English and Chinese

Translate a Hong Kong address from Chinese to English or back. Not word by word: the address is first checked against the Government Address Lookup Service (ALS), then written with the official names on record, line by line in envelope order, with the flat, floor and block rearranged the way each language writes them.

Try:

Hong Kong address format in English: small to large

An English address starts with the smallest part and ends with Hong Kong on the last line:

Flat A, 12/F, Block 3
Nga Tsin Wai Building
38 Nga Tsin Wai Road
Kowloon City, Kowloon
Hong Kong

The order is flat (Flat/Room) → floor (12/F) → block → building → street number and street → district → Kowloon or New Territories → Hong Kong. The street number goes before the street name.

Chinese address format: large to small

Chinese runs the other way, from the region down to the flat:

香港九龍九龍城區
衙前圍道38號
衙前圍大樓3座12樓A室

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I write a Hong Kong address in English?
Start with the flat and floor (Flat A, 12/F), then the block, the building name, the street number and street, the district, Kowloon or New Territories where it applies, and Hong Kong on the last line. Use the official English names of the building and street — the tool on this page looks them up in the Government address database.
What is the difference between Flat, Room and Unit?
All three mean 室. Flat is usual for homes, Room or Unit for offices and industrial buildings; mail is delivered with any of them.
What does 12/F mean?
12/F is the 12th floor (12樓). G/F is the ground floor (地下), LG/F and UG/F are the lower and upper ground floors, M/F is a mezzanine (閣樓).
Should I write Kowloon or New Territories?
Yes, after the district: "Kowloon City, Kowloon", "Sha Tin, New Territories". Addresses on Hong Kong Island usually go straight to Hong Kong. Mail from abroad needs Hong Kong on the last line.
Where does the address data come from?
From the Government Address Lookup Service (ALS) run by the Digital Policy Office — the official address records government departments use. What you type is sent to ALS for the lookup and is never used to build a profile; see the privacy notice (/en/privacy).
