Private healthcare facilities in Hong Kong

Private hospitals, day procedure centres, clinics and small practice clinics in Hong Kong need a licence or a letter of exemption under the Private Healthcare Facilities Ordinance (Cap. 633). The Department of Health lists 3,698 facilities with a valid one. This page lists the 1,801 this site may name — most of the rest are named after a doctor — by district, with the licence type, the scheduled procedures a day procedure centre may provide, and how to check a facility.

What a Cap. 633 licence means

According to the Department of Health, the Private Healthcare Facilities Ordinance, passed in November 2018, regulates all private healthcare facilities, and facilities are premises-based. A facility that provides lodging or medical procedures to patients lasting more than 12 hours, hospital-only medical procedures, or services to pregnant women for and immediately after childbirth needs a hospital licence. One that provides any of the scheduled medical procedures — surgical procedure, endoscopic procedure, dental procedure, chemotherapy, haemodialysis, interventional radiology and lithotripsy, anaesthetic procedure, radiotherapy — needs a day procedure centre licence. Otherwise a facility needs a clinic licence, or, if it meets the conditions of a small practice clinic, may request a letter of exemption. Applications for clinic licences and requests for letters of exemption for small practice clinics started on 13 October 2025.

How to check a facility

  1. Search for it on the Department of Health’s Private Healthcare Facilities Register.
  2. The Department says members of the public can verify a licensed or exempted private healthcare facility by scanning the QR code on its licence or letter of exemption with the Licence Scanner of the @DH Mobile App.

This site copies the Department’s list weekly, so its register is the authority. The licence types are explained in the Department’s simple guide to Cap. 633. Clinics registered under the Medical Clinics Ordinance (Cap. 343), which the Department’s Office for Regulation of Private Healthcare Facilities also oversees, are not on this list: see the Department’s list of clinics under Cap. 343.

To protect privacy, this site never shows the name of a natural person. Many clinics are named after the doctor who runs them: a small practice clinic, day procedure centre or clinic named after a doctor, or whose name reads as a person’s, is counted here but not named, and its address and telephone number are not shown; one whose name seems to contain a person’s name is held back the same way until it has been reviewed. Check those on the Department of Health’s register.

Private healthcare facilities by district

An entry belongs to the district its address is in: the point the Department’s list gives for it, inside the Home Affairs Department’s district boundary; an entry without a point is placed from its address. Each district page lists every entry there.
