Club-houses with a Certificate of Compliance in Hong Kong
Clubs in Hong Kong — country clubs, sports and social clubs, residents’ clubs — need a Certificate of Compliance for their club-houses under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance (Cap. 376). This page lists all 503 club-houses on the Home Affairs Department’s published list: search by name or certificate number, or browse by district.
What a Certificate of Compliance is
According to the Home Affairs Department’s Office of the Licensing Authority, the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance (Cap. 376) defines a club as any corporation or association of persons formed for the purpose of affording its members facilities for social intercourse or recreation, which provides services for its members (whether or not for gain) and has a club-house of which only its members and their accompanied guests have a right of use; a club-house is any premises or part of premises exclusively set aside for use permanently or temporarily by a club and its members.
Any new establishment must apply for a Certificate of Compliance from the Office before it starts operating, and certificates are subject to annual renewal.
How to check a club-house
- Search for it on the Office of the Licensing Authority’s search for clubs with a Certificate of Compliance.
- Compare the name, address and certificate number with what you were given.
The Office updates the open-data list monthly and this site copies it weekly, so the Office’s search is the authority. Details are on the Office’s clubs page.
