🗺️ HK Utility Map
What a taxi from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui actually costs, worked out from the Transport Department tariff and the real driving distance rather than guessed.
| Flagfall (first 2 km) | $29 |
|---|---|
| Remaining 5.0 km — 25 × 200 m | $52.5 |
| Meter fare | $81.5 |
| Harbour crossing (toll + return toll) | $50 |
| Estimated total | $131.5 |
Every piece of baggage in the boot adds $6, so two suitcases make it about HK$144. The meter also runs while the taxi is stopped — $2.1 a minute at first, $1.4 once the fare passes $102.5 — which is what moves the number in traffic, not the distance.
The $25 return toll is not charged if the hiring begins at a cross-harbour taxi stand, or if your final destination is not on the opposite side of the harbour.
| Charge | 🔴 Urban (red) | 🟢 New Territories (green) | 🔵 Lantau (blue) |
|---|---|---|---|
| First 2 km (flagfall) | $29 | $25.5 | $24 |
| Each further 200 m, or each minute waiting | $2.1 | $1.9 | $1.9 |
| …once the fare reaches | $102.5 | $82.5 | $195 |
| …then each 200 m or minute | $1.4 | $1.4 | $1.6 |
Distance and waiting time are charged at the same rate off the same threshold — a taxi stuck in traffic keeps charging.
